The Fujifilm Zoom 76S comes out of the post-millennium hangover, when production lines wound down and unsold stock filled department-store shelves. Catalogued as a zoom compact, it pairs the Fujinon Zoom 38–76mm with a 35mm film path. A bit of background: one of the last of the breed: built in Indonesia around 2002, right as film compacts were being wiped out by digital.

The Fujinon Zoom 38–76mm covers wide-to-short-tele in one barrel — one lens, no decisions, point and shoot. On the film-availability spectrum, plain 35mm is as easy as it gets in 2026. A single CR123A lithium cell powers everything including the motor; still cheap and stocked at most camera shops. The built-in flash will fire whenever the meter decides it should, so learn the override before your first night out. Minimum focus is 0.6 m, close enough for a coffee cup or a face but stops short of true macro. One thing worth knowing before you load a roll: Fuji kept the zoom short at 2× instead of chasing 105mm or 140mm — a shorter range means fewer compromises in the glass. Built for family events, holidays and anything where you'd rather reframe than walk.

Field note
We got dropped at the wrong trailhead, eight kilometres from anywhere, the Zoom 76S swinging off my shoulder and the light already going gold. I never left my chair — the Fujinon Zoom 38–76mm on the Zoom 76S covered everything from the awning to the bell tower. She rang three days later, ostensibly to ask what film I'd used; the Zoom 76S now gets a credit line in our wedding album.
